Scotty Yates

Scotty Yates joined the Greenville football program in February 2024 and serves as the Lions Defensive Coordinator. ? Yates, arrives with extensive experience in the collegiate and high school ranks. ? At the collegiate level, Yates spent 3 years as the Safety coach at UIW. During his stint at UIW, Yates was instrumental in the rebuild of the cardinal’s program. With his leadership and guidance, the cardinals developed into a national contender. The cardinals won Southland conference outright and their first NCAA playoff game in school history. During this time, UIW set a variety of school records. Yates mentored and developed Freshman All-American Jaylon Jimmerson, All-Conference safety Kaleb Culp, Shawn Holton, and Elliot Davison. Davison, signed with the New Orleans Saints. ? ?Prior to UIW, Yates spent 3 years at East Texas A&M, serving multiple coaching roles including Associate Director of Football Operations. While at East Texas A&M, Yates coached the Inside Linebackers, Star, and Cornerback position. Yates helped guide the Lions to 3 consecutive Conference Championships and into a national power. The Lions went on to win a National Championship in 2017. During his time with the Lions, Yates mentored LSC DB Of the Year Uriah Harris, All-American Yusef Sterling-Lowe, First Team All-Conference Charles Woods, Miami Dolphins Kader Kohou, BC Lions Jalon Edwards-Cooper, and BC Lions Davarus Shores. ? Yates, high school experience comes with stops at TAPPS, 4A, 5A, and 6A division. During his stint in the high school ranks, Yates served as Head S&C, Special Team’s Coordinator, Co-DC, Defensive Coordinator, and Assistant Head Coach.? Yates, a former player of his current Head Coach, David Collins. He is married to Britney and they have a golden doodle named Basil.
