Scotty Yates

Scotty Yates joined the Greenville football program in February 2024, and serves as the defensive coordinator.  

Yates comes with extensive experience in the collegiate and high school ranks 

At the collegiate level, Yates spent 3 years as the Safety coach at UIW. During his stint at UIW, he helped turn one of the worst D1 programs into a national contender. The cardinals won their first NCAA playoff game and set a variety of school records. Yates mentored and developed 3 all-conference safeties in Kaleb Culp, Shawn Holton, and Elliot Davison.  

Prior to UIW, Yates spent 3 years at Texas A&M – Commerce serving multiple coaching roles. While at TAMUC, Yates coached the inside linebackers, star, and cornerback position. Yates helped guide the lions to 3 conference championships and into a national power. During his time at Commerce, Yates mentored Uriah Harris, the LSC DB of the year, All-American Yusef Sterling-Lowe, first team all-conference Charles Woods, Miami Dolphins Kader Kohou, BC Lions Jalon Edwards-Cooper, and BC Lions Davarus Shores.  

Yates high school experience comes with stops at TAPPS, 4A, and 6A divisionsDuring his stint in the high school ranks, Yates served as Special team's coordinator and Co-DC.  

Yates is a former player of his father figure and Head Coach David Collins. 

Yates is married to Britney and they have a golden doodle named Basil.
