Anthony Portley
Anthony Portley is a proud Greenville High School alumnus with a long and respected background in basketball as both a player and coach. As a standout student-athlete for the Lions, he helped represent Greenville with excellence and earned All-District recognition during his high school career. Historical records note Portley as one of Greenville’s top players during the mid-1980s, leading the Lions in postseason competition.
Following high school, Portley continued his academic and athletic journey at Abilene Christian University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education/Math. He then built an accomplished coaching career at both the collegiate and high school levels, including stops as an assistant basketball coach at Hampton University and West Texas A&M University, along with head coaching responsibilities at Ranger College and Saint Paul's College.
He also served as women’s basketball head coach at Western Texas College and Texas College.
Coach Portley brings decades of experience in player development, leadership, and program building. Known for emphasizing discipline, accountability, teamwork, and character, he has dedicated his career to helping student-athletes succeed both on the court and in the classroom.
Returning to Greenville represents a full-circle moment for Coach Portley, whose passion for Lion athletics and commitment to mentoring young people make him a valuable leader in the Greenville High School athletic community.
