A native of Fillmore, CA, Valdez played at Iowa Central CC (2021–2023), winning the Graphic Edge Bowl and Game One Bowl, before continuing his career at East Texas A&M (2023–2024) and New Mexico State (2025), where he earned All-CUSA honors as an offensive lineman.
