The Greenville Lions hung tough with No. 24 Mount Pleasant but dropped their 2019-20 basketball finale, 55-51 on Tuesday at the Lions Den.

Mount Pleasant clinched the undisputed District 15-5A title with the victory to go 29-3 for the season and 9-1 in district play. The Tigers will advance to the bi-district playoffs.

The Lions finished at 26-11 overall and 3-7 in district.

“We played the toughest game that we have played in all our district games,” said Greenville coach Chris Williams. “I think when we took care of the basketball, we got the shots we wanted. In the half-court game, we played solid defense. Turnovers were the difference in the game.”

It was Senior Night and Greenville honored senior basketball players Tyrecus Davis, Desmond Johnson, Qualyn Williams, Quin Anderson, Kedrin Carter, Cameron Smith, Josh Dixon, Jeremiah Abrego and Dawaun Jimmerson in pre-game ceremonies.

Anderson fired in 14 points to lead Greenville, including four 3-point baskets. Abrego and Carter pumped in eight, while Marcus Hawkins, Davis and Smith tallied seven. Smith missed part of the second half after suffering an injury.

Payton Chism and Jamarion Brown each pumped in 17 points to lead Mount Pleasant.

Former Greenville Lions coach Dexter Patrick was in attendance to watch his former team play.
